BURY CE HIGH SCHOOL
A Church of England Academy with the vision to empower all students to let their light shine.

Enrichment

All our students experience one lesson per week of Enrichment. The curriculum focuses on our ‘We Care’ social action projects in the local community. Students have the opportunity to reflect on, who they are and what it means to be a Bury Church student working together to contribute in a positive way to improving the lives of others. We aim for students to build a positive reputation for our school by empathising with others and working together to improve the lives of people in our local community.

Our ‘We Care’ curriculum is based on the worldwide ‘I Will’ movement that promotes that all children and young people should be supported and empowered to make a positive difference on the issues that affect their lives, their communities, and broader society. Bury Church have been awarded a grant from The Ormiston Trust to develop their social action projects. Each year group has a focus within the ‘We Care’ theme where students take ownership of local issues and work together to make a positive change.

The ‘We Care’ focus for each year group is:

Year 7 – We Care about the Environment

Students identify issues in school and in the local community around the environment. For example, students in Year 7 complete litter picking events in school and the local area. They look to make the school more sustainable and look to develop quiet reflection areas within the school site.

Year 8 – We Care about homeless people

Students are working to support Bury Homeless Project. For example, they are organising the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal in school to support local homeless people at Christmas.

Year 9 – We Care about People in Need

Students learn first aid and aim to become mental health ambassadors to support people in need in school and the wider community.

Year 10 – We Care about Our Community

Students look to support people who are lonely in our community. For example, Year 10 are organising the Christmas talent show for residents in local care homes – making afternoon tea, organising the show, advertisement and logistics around transport.

Year 11 – We Care about Our Future

Students focus on their future and how they can be positive role models beyond school life in the local community. Students will be asked to complete voluntary work in the community.
